Crown Lands rocking downtown Oshawa for New Year’s Eve

There are a lot of options for celebrating New Year’s Eve in Oshawa but it may be hard to beat a performance by one of the city’s own, the Juno-winning prog rock/hard rock duo Crown Lands, at BOND|ST Event Centre.
Since meeting in 2015 at a band audition – where they bonded over a love of prog icons Rush – the duo of singer/drummer Cody Bowles and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Kevin Comeau have been channeling ancient sprits into fantastical stories and earning rave reviews from their dedicated fans and the music community alike.
And they’ve done it all as a duo, with – as Comeau puts it – “no tracks, no trickery and no additional members.”
Born storytellers, Crown Lands have been advocating for the LGBTQ+ and Indigenous communities since the beginning and have penned urgent odes to the mistreatment of Canada’s First Nations peoples, such as the 2020 banger, ‘End of the Road.’
The 2020 Juno winners for Breakthrough Group of the Year, Crown Lands has released two full-length albums. Their self-titled debut LP launched in 2020 while ‘Fearless’ was released in 2023. Both were nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the Junos.
Introspective on their own and while creating music, the band takes on a whole other perspective when they are together and on stage.
“We don’t really do a lot in solitude for this band,” Comeau says. “When we come together, it’s like, what would Pink Floyd do if they jammed with Rush? It’s a different kind of headspace.”
Tickets for the downtown Oshawa show start at $51 with the show starting at 8 p.m. Crown Lands will be supported by BRKN LOVE and Excuses Excuses.
