Thanks to supply chain issues and the usual COVID-19 suspects it will take longer to deliver the new CT Scanner to the Port Perry Hospital than it did to raise the funds for it but on the bright side, the scanner is on its way and should be in use at Lakeridge Health Port Perry by spring.

The hospital foundation’s Here for You fundraising campaign launched in March 2021 and reached its goal last January and now has raised $4.15 million, surpassing its goal of $4 million.

“This is a really exciting announcement for our community,” said Port Perry Hospital Foundation President and CEO Rachel Agnoluzzi. “Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, such as COVID-19 restrictions and supply chain issues, we have experienced a delay in this process. However, we remain unwavering in our commitment to move this forward.”

CT scans are used to diagnose an injury and/or determine medical treatment, very often in emergency situations. Currently, all Port Perry Hospital patients who need a CT scan are transferred to another hospital for their scan before treatment can begin. A CT scanner at Port Perry Hospital will shorten the time from diagnosis to treatment for patients and at times, it will be the key to saving a life.

“We are thrilled to see this campaign achieve such success while bringing the community together to support the Port Perry Hospital and provide this important diagnostic equipment to the Hospital,” enthused Cynthia Davis, President and CEO, Lakeridge Health. “A CT scanner at Lakeridge Health’s Port Perry Hospital will facilitate timely diagnoses and treatments, reducing time and saving lives.”

The Here for You campaign raised the funds required to purchase a state-of-the-art CT scanner and renovate the facilities for the CT suite. Publicly launched in March 2021 (having already secured $2.45 million through the generosity of early supporters and reserve funds), the campaign hit its goal 10 months later.

Agnoluzzi thanked all the donors who made the scanner purchase possible.

“It is because of our community and their steadfast support that we are able to purchase and install advanced medical equipment, such as this CT scanner. The Foundation and Lakeridge Health recognize that waiting for this much needed equipment can be difficult. We are doing our utmost to advance this as quickly as possible, and we appreciate the patience and understanding from our community.”
