The park was packed with culture lovers Saturday as Culture Fusion took over Pickering’s Esplanade Park for a day of music, fashion, food and other culture jamming events celebrating the multi-layered tapestry of cultures in the city.

Culture Fusion, which was a hit last year in the inaugural presentation, is an international cultural event celebrated around the world, with a dynamic array of dance, music, food, and storytelling on the itinerary.

The party included performers on the Gazebo Concert Stage and throughout the park, plus an artisan market, a fashion show and parade and Culturalicious, with culinary delights from around the world right in Pickering’s backyard.

Rocking out to the sounds of ABBA

Dance performances were prominent on the stage, with demonstrations including an Indigenous drum and jingle dress dance, Canada’s National Lion Dance team, the West Indian Fusion dancers and dancers from the Litmus Chinese Dance Association, Zahra’s School of Middle Eastern Dance and the STCC Dance Academy.

Other performers included the Gita Youth Musical Group, a sitar performance, youth spoken word poetry and SOS – the Abba Experience.

An artisan market and the Culturalicious food market – with delicacies from samosas and jerk chicken to paella and Halal hot dogs – was also a hit with those in attendance.
