Demand for ID results in assault, robbery at Whitby gas station

A demand by a Whitby gas station employee for ID for a smoking paraphernalia purchase led to an assault and robbery, with police on the hunt for the suspect.
Police responded to the robbery call at the Esso Gas Station on Brock Street North Tuesday morning and were told the suspect entered the gas station to buy ‘smoking paraphernalia’ and was asked for ID. When the suspect presented fake identification and was refused service he allegedly assaulted the attendant and stole several items.
The young man then fled before police arrived.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
The suspect is described as Black, approximately 19, 5’7” with a slim build. He was wearing a black jacket and black pants.
