Durham Regional Police are set to provide an update on their investigation into the double shooting in Clarington last winter.

Gunfire erupted in a suburban home on Crombie St. on Feb. 4, 2023. Sometime afterwards police received a 911 call requesting a wellness check on the couple, discovering the victims around 2 p.m.

When police arrived they found Aram Kamel (previously known as Aram Al-Kamisi), 28, and Rafad Alzubaidy, 26, dead from “obvious signs of trauma.”

Investigators discovered Alzubaidy was pregnant and publicly identified the couple on Feb. 8. Alzubaidy and Kamel were the third and fourth murder victims in Durham Region in 2023.

While police shared no suspect information at the time, they believed the attack was an “isolated incident.”

More than a year after their deaths, police are expected to hold a press conference in Bowmanville on Mar. 8 at 10 a.m. Homicide Det. Sgt. Brad Corner will host the press conference. However, the nature of his announcement was not specified.
