Two men face charges after allegedly assaulting an officer and drinking alcohol in public.
Durham Police officers were on patrol around Water Street and Scugog Street when they came across a group of four men. The group was gathered in the parking lot of a closed restaurant. Police did not specify which one though the busy area is home to several restaurants.
The officers noticed the men were drinking alcohol and they demanded identification. Two of the men complied but a third refused to cooperate, “becoming irate and making assaultive motions toward the officer,” police said.
After several warnings, they arrested the man. He tried to resist however and struck an officer, police allege. Bradley Douglas Cox, 35 from Port Perry is charged with assault to resist arrest, being intoxicated in public, and having open liquor in an unauthorized place. He was later released with conditions.
