A driver is off the road for a while after he was clocked at nearly twice the speed limit in Whitby.

He was allegedly speeding through Lake Ridge Rd. and Brawley Rd. on June 18 when he was spotted by officers on patrol, Durham Regional Police said. The officers clocked the car’s speed finding it was 135 km/h in a posted 80 zone.

They pulled the driver, a 23-year-old man, over and charged him with a variety of Highway Traffic Act offences including stunt driving. This is one of Ontario’s harshest Highway Traffic Act charges. If convicted the driver could lose his licence for one to three years and face a fine of at least $2,000 for a first offence.

The driver’s license has been suspended and his car impounded.
