An Oshawa man faces stunt driving charges after a driver was clocked travelling more than double the speed limit.

Officers conducting speed enforcement at Taunton Road East and Wilson Road in Oshawa measured a vehicle travelling 112 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone around 9 a.m. on Aug. 1, Durham Regional Police said in a tweet today (Aug. 4).

A 26-year-old man from Oshawa faces three Highway Traffic Act offences including stunt driving, police said.

His vehicle was seized and his license suspended, police added.

The penalties for stunt driving include the possibility of arrest and a mandatory court date with a minimum fine of $2,000 to $10,000. In addition, drivers can lose their licence for 30 days, and their vehicle can be impounded for 14 days, regardless of who the registered owner is.

Upon conviction, drivers face further penalties, including a one to three year driver’s licence suspension, six demerit points, mandatory driver improvement courses, and up to six months in jail.
