Driver strikes pedestrian, crashes through fences and lands in pool in Whitby

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle while waiting for the bus yesterday in Whitby.
Durham Regional Police say the crash happened around 12:50 p.m. near Rossland Road East and Fencerow Drive, when a Dodge Ram pickup, driven by a 65-year-old Oshawa man, mounted the curb, crossed the boulevard and hit the pedestrian.
The truck continued east, hitting two Bell service boxes before crashing through fences and coming to a stop in a pool at a nearby home on Ravenview Drive.
The pedestrian, a 28-year-old man from Whitby, was transported to a trauma hospital in Toronto where he remains in critical condition.
Collision investigators closed the area for several hours to examine the scene and police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
