A suspect has been arrested following a stabbing at the Durham College Whitby campus.
The campus at 1610 Champlain Ave, home to the college’s culinary and agricultural programs, was placed on lockdown following the attack around 5 p.m. on Sept. 25. At first Durham Regional Police announced only the lockdown itself but confirmed it was the result of a stabbing minutes later.
The following day police confirmed more details of the stabbing. They reported witnesses called them to the campus after spotting an armed person. The suspect allegedly then got into a physical fight with the victim. Police claim he used an edged weapon and stabbed the victim in the arm.
Officers locked the school down and cleared out the campus. Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. However, the suspect slipped out of the school. He was arrested later when police raided his home in Pickering.
Cody Do Couoto, 18, has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
