Active COVID-19 cases in Durham have fallen to 438 with just 58 new cases reported in the region Tuesday.

There was one late reporting death from Whitby on Monday, bringing the death count from the virus since the pandemic was declared nearly two years ago to 439.

Oshawa, with 19, and Whitby, with 17, were the only municipalities reporting new cases in the double digits, though it is understood that because of new reporting protocols the numbers will be under-reported.

Whatever the true numbers, they are falling and that can only be a good thing.

Hospitalizations in Durham are down as well, with 40 people in hospital with the virus and five in ICU. There are nine institutional outbreaks in Durham – the same as yesterday, involving 31 patients and staff. The largest outbreak is at Abbeylawn Retirement Centre in Pickering with nine.
