Durham Police has a new group of officers set to patrol the region following a graduation ceremony in Ajax last week.
The latest class graduated on Aug. 15 in a ceremony involving Chief Peter Moriera, the service’s Pipe and Drums band and choir. Moriera presented each new officer with their badges.
The new group each received their badge from Moriera who told them, “Embrace this calling with dedication and honour. Strive for excellence each day and serve our community with pride, humility and dignity. Always remember to treat everyone you encounter with respect – your actions and decisions can have a profound impact on the lives of others.”
Class valedictorian went to Constable Shane Curry who also addressed the crowd.
The graduating class voted to honour Constable Danika Kulas with the Constable Allan Christiansen due to his positive attitude in life and training, exceptional leadership qualities, dedication to a high level of personal fitness and commitment to volunteering.
Christiansen was killed in a car crash while returning home from the March Past Ceremony after completing his Basic Constable Course at the Ontario Police College. DRPS presents a member of each recruit class with an award in Allan’s honour.
Over the next three months, each recruit will be assigned to a Coach Officer for further on-the-job training. The last graduating class of 15 recruits had their ceremony in May.
