Durham Police officer charged for pointing a weapon during a Beaverton traffic stop

An officer from Durham Police North Division faces two charges after an altercation in July during a traffic stop in Beaverton.

The altercation took place on July 17 around 10:30 p.m.in the Highway 12 and Highway 48 area. Once the Durham Regional Police Services Professional Standards Unit (PSU) learned of the incident, the officer was suspended while the PSU investigated.

Matthew Lowe, 24 from Toronto, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and pointing a firearm on November 1. He was released with conditions. Lowe was a constable with Durham for a little more than two years.

Police continue to investigate. They are asking any witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information can call the PSU at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 4370.
