The Durham Greener Homes Program has received national recognition through a video released by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), highlighting the program and its third-party financing model that makes energy efficient home upgrades more accessible and affordable for homeowners.

The Durham Greener Homes Program is a first-of-its-kind home energy upgrade program in Canada and supports Durham homeowners through their home retrofit journey. It provides access to free expert home energy coaching, financing options, incentives and cashback rebates.

“Since its launch, The Durham Greener Homes Program is helping to create more resilient homes and a sustainable community by engaging Durham homeowners in climate action,” said Durham Region Sustainability Manager Ian McVey. “We are excited to see the Durham Greener Homes Program featured on the national stage by FCM and hope that it inspires other municipalities to transform into climate-efficient communities.”

The program is delivered in partnership with the Windfall Ecology Centre and is a key part of the Region’s implementation of climate action initiatives in response to Durham Regional Council’s climate emergency declaration.

Funding is provided through a $3.4 million investment from the Community Efficiency Financing, an initiative delivered by the FCM’s Green Municipal Fund and supported by the federal government.
