Durham Region didn’t have to wait long to welcome its first baby of 2025, with a girl born at 1:56 a.m. at Oshawa Hospital to proud parents Navethra Goviandarasu and Rathnagiri Athiannan.
Durham’s newest littlest one weighed five pounds, 12 ounces at birth. The parents, who said they were grateful for the support from the team at Lakeridge Health, including obstetrician Dr. Paul Pancham, are still deciding on the child’s name.
Some five-and-a-half hours later baby #2 came into the world when Mulki Saleman welcomed a boy – her first child – at 7:36 a.m. at Ajax Pickering Hospital.
Port Perry Hospital’s New Life Centre is still waiting for its first baby of 2025.
With birthing suites at the Oshawa, Ajax-Pickering and Port Perry hospitals, Lakeridge Health is the eighth largest birthing centre in Ontario, delivering 4,447 babies over the past two years.
