Eight schools in Durham Region have now shut their doors as the Omicron variant spreads through classrooms.

Thirty-seven students have now tested positive for the virus with more to come as contact tracing efforts pick up steam. With the Christmas break almost upon us, it is likely the closed schools will remain shuttered until the new year. EE Corpus Christi in Oshawa, which had a school-wide outbreak last month, declared their outbreak over Monday.

Principals will be in touch with parents and students at all the affected schools with return date updates.

  • Winchester PS (Whitby)
  • Hillsdale PS (Oshawa)
