An elderly woman is fighting for her life after she was attacked in Oshawa last weekend.

A 911 call made to Durham Regional Police reported an argument in a Bermuda Ave. home shortly before 11:30 p.m. on June 24. Officers responded to the home up near the Oshawa airport, where they found the 72-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed the woman to a Toronto hospital where she remains in life-threatening condition as of June 26.

There was a man in the home when police arrived. Police arrested this man after a struggle in which both the man and two officers were injured. The officers sustained minor wounds and were treated on scene. However, the man was injured enough to prompt a Special Investigations Unit investigation.

The SIU investigates any interaction between police and the public when someone sustains serious injuries. They describe such injuries as “likely to interfere with the person’s health or comfort and is not transient or trifling in nature.” Police have not commented on the nature of the man’s injuries.

Sean Carter, 37 of Oshawa, is charged with aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer. Police did not say if he was released with conditions or remains in custody.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation can call A/Det Stuart at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1829 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
