Controversial Pickering Councillor Lisa Robinson took her anti-corruption show to Ottawa Monday, telling reporters at a press conference on Parliament Hill she has been “silenced” for standing against Pride events, gender-neutral bathrooms and other right-wing talking points.

Robinson said it was time for residents to “stand up to corruption” and then opened the floor for questions.

There were none.

Pickering Council has asked the Province to make changes to the Municipal Act to help discipline or even remove from office rogue councillors like Robinson, who has been suspended twice for 30- and 60-day periods for “hateful” comments. She was also the subject of an appeal to the Ontario Human Rights Commissioner, and most recently, a request to the Province to bring in stricter sanctions for councillors after her appearance on a alt-right podcast where the host published the names, pictures, and personal phone numbers of councillors and labelled them “pedophiles,” “nazis” and “fascists.”

A review of the Municipal Act is underway. There are currently no provisions in the Act for the removal of a member for code of conduct violations.

Robinson also released a series of short videos taken last week in front of Pickering City Hall where she spoke about the proposed changes to the Municipal Act.

“In Pickering, dissent is silenced, diligence dismissed and corruption concealed,” she said. “A recipe for a mini-dictatorship.”

Her supporters also took to their social media channels, with Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe called “woke” and Councillor Maurice Brenner labelled “tyrannical and deranged.” Both, the tweets suggest, should step down.
