Emergency call about man jumping in front of cars on Hwy 401 in Whitby ends safely

A 9-11 call Thursday night about a man “jumping in front of vehicles” on Highway 401 in Whitby had a happy ending but was a dangerous encounter for police, other drivers on the highway and especially for the man, who was obviously having a mental health incident.
West Division officers responded to the call about 10 p.m. discovered the man on the highway and immediately realized he was in medical distress.
The man then lost consciousness and officers were able to administer narcan and safely transport him to hospital. He has since been medically cleared.
