Employee charged with breaking into retirement home rooms in Whitby

An employee of a Whitby retirement home has been charged for allegedly breaking into residents’ rooms.

The employee, Kelsha Charles, 30 of Whitby, worked at the Village of Taunton Mills home on Taunton Rd. and Brock St. Durham Regional Police allege Charles was recorded on security camera breaking into residents’ rooms and stealing cash and various items.

The home launched an internal investigation and chose to terminate her employment.

Police arrested the accused on Jan 11. She’s been charged with nine counts of break-and-enter and seven counts of theft over $5,000. She’s since been released from custody with conditions.
