Land is king in Durham Region as four of the five most expensive homes listed for sale in Durham Region this month are country estates with land for days.

Number one on the list is a 5,000 square-foot home on Hurd Street in Oshawa’s northern community of Raglan that is listed at $4,990,000. The estate features six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a two-storey guest house, a saltwater pool and a finished basement with a theatre room, all on 1.71 acres in a private enclave.

The home sold for $2.888 million in August and was put back on the market the next month. Taxes for this property, if you have to ask, are $13,400.

Number two on the list is another stunning country estate, this time in Scugog on Clyde Court. The home has three bedrooms, nine bathrooms – yes, nine – and five fireplaces, along with 10-foot ceilings and luxury finishes throughout.

The home, which went on the market in May for $4.2 million, is selling for $3,999,000.

The third home on the list for most expensive homes on the market in Durham is a five-bedroom, seven bathroom custom-built bungalow on Camber Court in Brooklin selling for $3,850,000.

The estate home, which backs on to the Lynde Creek ravine, boasts quartz counters and other high-end finishes and a resort-style backyard with a saltwater pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen.

Number four is a horse lover’s dream; a 3,200 square-foot custom bungalow with a ten-stall barn on 49 acres in Uxbridge. Thirty acres are planted with hay and the grounds include a 40 x 100-foot coverall for storage.

The three-bedroom, four-bathroom home on Concession Road is for sale at $3,399,000.

The final entry to make the elite grade is the second listing from the Brooklin area, though this home on Thickson Road (north of Columbus Road) is tucked away in nearly nine acres of woodlot and hiking trails giving the buyer maximum privacy.

The home features a modern kitchen, a circular staircase and a garage/workshop with a three-bedroom apartment above with private deck.

The property also has a chicken coop (if you are so inclined) and is listed at $2,999,999.
