If Wow! Wing House founder Van Thevan understood one thing about Sri Lankan-Canadians, it’s that they like their fries spicy.
That bit of Tamil knowledge inspired him to come up with Jaffna Fries, a popular menu offering at his fast-growing franchise that is now 13-locations strong, including the latest restaurant in Oshawa at Harmony & Taunton.
Jaffna Fries, for the record, are dressed with chilies and onions and doused with ranch dressing and roasted garlic.
But it’s the wings, of course, that are the star attraction at Wow! Wing House, with 123 different flavour combinations, from Honey Garlic, Killer Thai and Buffalo Teriyaki to Tai Domi, Creamy Cajun and Brown-Eyed Bonde.
You can also get the wings with a classic ranch flavour or dry rubbed with 28 different rubs and sprinkles.
Most of the flavours and sauces were developed by Thevan, who also serves as Executive Chef for the company.
Wow! Wing House also has burgers, salads, sammies & wraps, crispy bites & sea bites, quesadillas and kids specials.
The chain was launched in 2003 and currently has the original locations in Markham and Scarborough (x2) and in Vaughan, plus Durham Region restaurants in Whitby (601 Dundas St. W.), Pickering (550 Finch Ave.) and Ajax (34 Hunt St.). Other locations are in Toronto, Shelburne and Hannover, Ontario and in Florida in Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers, with three more in the sunshine state on the way.
The Oshawa location (767 Taunton Rd. E.) is the newest restaurant in the chain.
