An 18-year-old girl from Whitby is facing charges after an online threat was made to carry out a shooting at an Oshawa college.

Durham Regional Police say they received information on Thursday from the RCMP related to a concerning Snapchat message they had intercepted that threatened a shooting at Durham College.

“The message indicated a female’s desire to initiate a shooting at a school in Oshawa,” said Durham police. “Investigators traced the message back to an 18-year-old Durham College student.”

Durham police attended the campus, located at 2000 Simcoe St. N., and arrested a suspect without incident.

A search warrant was subsequently issued for a home in Whitby, where police seized 18 firearms, five airsoft guns (replica guns) and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

The firearms were acquired and stored lawfully, police said.

Jhusmin Pagkaliwagan, 18, of Whitby, has been charged with uttering threats. She was held for a bail hearing.
