The fittest and fastest firefighters in the region will be competing to see who is really the fittest and the fastest at the Eastern Ontario Regional FireFit Championships August 9-11 at Delpark Homes Centre.
More than 300 first responders will be at the north Oshawa recreation centre, with the community given front row seats as teams and individual firefighters from all over Ontario go head-to-head on tasks based on real-life emergencies.
This is the sixth year Oshawa has hosted a FireFit event and the city has also hosted numerous Canadian championships as well as the 2019 World Championships.
The regional competition launches on Friday, August 9 at 6 p.m. with the Charity Relay competition, which is open to teams made up of members of the public. Charity Relay teams are tasked with completing a course identical to the firefighter’s relay competition. If you’d like to participate, email [email protected]. All proceeds go to supporting local charities and emergency services.
The real first responders take over the course on Saturday for the individual and team competitions and Sunday for the relay and tandem competitions.
Returning this year is the Kids Interactive FireFit Zone, which features the famous kids course, RS Rescue Extrication Zone, demos, fire prevention, and more.
On Saturday, the North Oshawa Farmers’ Market will run 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Delpark Homes Centre. The playgrounds, water parks and library branch at Delpark Homes Centre is also available for public use throughout the event. Souvenir items will be available, as well as various vendors, food trucks, fire safety information, displays, and more.
