Five people, including a child, needed rescue after their boat capsized on Lake Simcoe.
The group of four adults and one kid was out fishing off the Beaverton shore on Aug. 5. Shortly before 8 p.m. the boat encountered heavy waves which backfilled the vessel.
The water capsized the boat leaving all five stranded.
The Brock Fire Department and Durham Police soon responded to the scene. They were able to pull everyone from the water. A medical check found all five were unharmed.
“While boating this season,” police advised, “test to ensure your equipment and watercraft are functioning properly and you are prepared for potential emergencies.”
“Always wear a life vest or personal floatation device that is fitted correctly to your body when getting onto any body of water,” they continued, “This can mean the difference between life and death.”
