A fog advisory has rolled into Durham Region with Environment Canada warning visibility may be “suddenly reduced to near zero.”

Environment Canada issued an alert from Pickering to Clarington, adding Durham to much of the GTA, about the heavy fog shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 24. They said heavy fog had rolled in and was expected to continue throughout the day.

“Visibility may improve as an area of rain passes through this afternoon and evening, but could deteriorate once more after the rain departs tonight,” they wrote, “Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”

The temperature is hovering around -1 degrees and heavy snow is also expected throughout Durham. However, temperatures will rise in the evening, peaking at about 4 degrees by midnight.
