The Oshawa Generals are sharing their shock and condolences after a former left winger for the club, along with his estranged wife, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in suburban Oshawa.
Pat Montgomery, 42, played 184 games over three seasons with the junior hockey club between 1999 and 2002. A 30-year-old Oshawa man who was living in Andrieana Montgomery’s basement is facing two counts of first-degree murder after both Montgomerys were shot in their respective residences, located about 400 metres apart near Jane Avenue and Glenforest Street.
“It is with a saddened heart that the Generals organization express condolences for the passing of former left-winger, Pat Montgomery as well as Andrieana Montgomery. We send our prayers for healing to all those affected,” the team said in a statement.
Durham Police say they were called to the area at 12:35 p.m. after reports of gunshots. Patrick Montgomery was found at his home suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported vis Ornge ambulance to a Toronto trauma centre. Montgomery died during transport.
Investigating officers then searched the nearby home belonging to Andrieana Montgomery and discovered she has been shot. Andrieana Montgomery, also 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accused, Mark Gordon, was at the residence, located immediately south of the Oshawa Airport, and taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has been held for a bail hearing.
Police said that the accused knew the victims but are insisting the shootings are not domestic-related. The motive behind the murders, police said, is still under investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information, including dashcam or surveillance footage, to contact Det. Dorego of DRPS’s Homicide Unit at (905) 579-1520, ext. 5319, or Crime Stoppers.
