Former Oshawa Kicks exec in charge of 5,000 athletes at North American Indigenous Games

The former Executive Director of the Oshawa Kicks soccer club is busy in Halifax this coming week as Manager of Athletic Services for the North American Indigenous Games.

Cameron McCrae, who spent six years with Oshawa Kicks, including the last 13 months as Executive Director, will be charge of making sure more than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team staff from 750-plus Indigenous nations are well taken care off at the event, which runs from July 15-23 in 21 venues in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Dartmouth and Millbrook First Nation.

The athletes will be competing in 15 sports, including Box Lacrosse, Canoe/Kayak, Rifle Shooting, Wrestling and 3D Archery.

The Durham College Sports Management grad told the organization last year his favourite part of working for the North American Indigenous Games is the “passion” of everyone involved.

“Everyone at NAIG shares a collective passion for the movement and the opportunity it provides for thousands of Indigenous youth. It’s both inspiring and energizing to work with a team that puts this level of care and commitment into its work.”
