COVID-19 cases are still rising in Durham – as they are across the province thanks to the Omicron variant – with 43 new cases reported yesterday.

Ajax (11) and Pickering (10) have been the new hotspots this week, though Oshawa (9) is still reporting high daily numbers. There are now four residents in hospital, with two in ICU.

The total of active cases in the region has fallen a bit to 247 but Durham has its first case in a long-term care home in weeks with two residents self-isolating at Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Whitby. School outbreaks have increased by one to ten, but the number of children affected is dropping as the outbreak that forced EE Corpus Christi in Oshawa to close slowly gets resolved. There are still ten students at the school isolating, with 18 students region-wide affected.

Workplace outbreak numbers remain at four.
