The Furniture Flipping wave has reached Oshawa, with the two-day Furniture Flipping Show taking over the Oshawa Markets Saturday and Sunday with 8,000 sq. ft of space showcasing hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces.
Furniture Flipping – the art of restoring old furniture and ‘flipping’ it back on the market – has been growing at a rapid pace lately. Furniture listings have grown by an astounding 740 per cent on Facebook Marketplace and the hashtag #furnitureflip is up 29 per cent on Instagram and 23 per cent on TikTok.
In fact, Architectural Digest is calling the phenomenon ‘FlipTok on TikTok.’
Furniture Flipper Show founder Debbie Wong caught the furniture flipping bug in her 20s, completing pieces for herself and friends and family, and even selling some as a part time business – a familiar story to many others in the business.
Looking for a way to compliment online sales it quickly became apparent that there really wasn’t a viable option dedicated to the Industry, which to Wong was simply an opportunity to provide it herself with the launch of the Furniture Flipping Show.
The show will feature a Favourite Furniture Design Competition and special guests such as Jennylynn Pringle, Daniel Cervantes, Donna MacDonald and Miranda Matthews.
Visitors can talk to the experts on how to get started or hone their skills in the business and there will be a ton of chances to take that special piece home.
The Furniture Flippers Show will go from 10 a.m. to six p.m. on both days. The Oshawa Market is located on Simcoe Street, just north of Hwy 401. Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking.
