Half century celebrations at Oshawa’s G.L. Roberts Collegiate kick off Friday with an alumni and staff drop-in, the first event in a weekend of opportunities for former students and faculty to go down memory lane.

G.L. Roberts has been enriching the minds of students in south Oshawa since 1972 and are inviting staff and students past and present to attend their 50th birthday party.

Chuck Powers, the school’s first Principal has been hands on in piecing together the history of the high school alongside current Principal Dawn White and both will be in attendance throughout the weekend.

Saturday, October 22nd is the Open House (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) where alumni can explore the school and venture back in time to their ‘glory days.’ G.L. Roberts will have decades rooms open for a trip through the past as well as exploring new additions to the school. Durham Hair Academy will be open for those looking to get dolled up. Food trucks will also be available in the parking lot.

Admission is free though the school is accepting donations to support future programs and bursaries for the students. The G.L. Roberts Legacy Fund allows the school to continue their nutritional program, for students to participate in experiential learning opportunities, and for scholarships to graduating students.

Saturday night is the social night, with a Reunion Social (19+ event) from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Tribute Community Centre in downtown Oshawa. Tickets for the party are $45 and include appetizers.

Sunday, October 23rd is the Staff Brunch, starting at 10 a.m. with brunch served at 11 a.m.
