Garbage, blue box changes for 5,000 Oshawa residents starting June 3

Waste collection schedules will change for 5,000 Oshawa households beginning June 3, with the shift in boundaries happening to accommodate future growth.
Residents affected by the change will be notified directly via a door hanger and a letter in the mail. Homeowners and tenants can also visit Oshawa.ca/WasteLookUp to see if their property is affected.
A news release from the City said the changes will improve the delivery of waste collection services by ensuring the number of curbside collection stops is equally distributed throughout the collection week.
Depending on the address, the shift in boundaries may mean that some households will see their collection day change, affecting the green bin, blue box, garbage, and yard waste, the week for their garbage collection change, or both.
More than 90 per cent of households in Oshawa will not see any change to the collection schedule.
Oshawa’s waste collection schedule is now digital and residents can access their waste schedules by downloading the Durham Region Waste app to their mobile devices, via Apple or Google Play stores or by visiting Oshawa.ca/Waste to:
- download the app
- look up and print the waste schedule
- set up service notifications
- use the ‘Know Before You Throw’ sorting tool
- purchase bag tags for additional bags
- book a large item collection
- register for waste assistance programs
Residents can also Connect with Service Oshawa at (905) 436-3311 or service@oshawa.ca for more waste collection schedule information.
