Fresh off a strong win in the $36,000 Stallion Auction Futurity on June 28, impressive 2-year-old General Skywalker headlines one of two Trials for the Ontario Bred Futurity at Ajax Downs on Wednesday. The final for the Ontario bred Futurity is worth $55,000-added and will be run on August 2.

The two Trial races, each at 300-yards, are races 3 and 4 on this week’s Quarter Horse racing card which gets underway at 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday is one of two racing days at Ajax Downs this week as the track hosts its popular Craft Brewery Day on Sunday, July 16 with a first race post time of 12:55 p.m.

General Skywalker will be favoured in the second Ontario Bred Futurity Trial and starts from post one under jockey Ramiro Castillo. The large and laid-back son of Look At Magics Form has been a fast learner for owner/breeder Marie Broadstock and trainer Bob Broadstock of Nestleton, ON. He was a close second in his career debut on June 7 behind the filly Senator Rose (who is in the first Trial) before winning the Stallion Auction Futurity.

General Skywalker meets five fellow 2-year-olds in his Trial (race 4).

Senator Rose flew to her debut win for owner, trainer and breeder James Bogar of Cameron, ON but was scratched at the gate for the Stallion Auction Futurity when she refused to load. A daughter of Bogar’s stallion Caviar and Corona, Senator Rose and jockey Cheyenne Kerr drew post 5 in their Trial.

Also on Wednesday’s card is the second leg of the Sprint Series, a $20,000 dash at 220-yards featuring stars such as world record setter Carneros and stakes winner Spy for the Senate. The Sprint Series – 2 is race 7.
