A grade seven student at Glen Dhu Public School was selected out of the graduates from this year’s Junior Firefighter Summer Camp as Whitby’s new Junior Fire Chief.

Adrian Foster-Freeman, who will join Whitby firefighters at a number of community events this year, demonstrated knowledge of fire safety at the summer camp, was highly engaged, and willing to help others.

This morning, as part of the 2022 Fire Prevention Week, Adrian was picked up at his school by a fire truck and driven to Whitby Fire Hall 5 for a day of Junior Fire Chief training. Adrian’s training included learning how to use equipment such as hoses and extinguishers. He also had the chance to experience an aerial ride and received training on auto extrication. He also received a new bike thanks to Canadian Tire.

The Junior Fire Chief for the Year Contest is supported by Durham District School Board, Whitby Fire and Emergency Services and sponsored by Canadian Tire North and St. Louis Bar and Grill.
