Oshawa Assembly has begun a third shift of Chevrolet Silverado production to help General Motors meet strong demand for its family of pickups.
GM Canada had announced it was adding a third shift of production to its Oshawa Assembly plant in the spring to begin building the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Production of the HD model began at Oshawa Assembly in November.
Oshawa is now the only GM facility producing both light and heavy-duty Silverados. GM produces the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 at its Fort Wayne, Indiana plant and in Mexico. The Silverado HD and Sierra HD are both built in Flint, Michigan.
The third shift brings the jobs created at the plant since its re-opening to 2,600, with more than half of those jobs staffed by women.
