Gun, impaired charges for man trying to flee traffic stop in Ajax

A Pickering man has been hit with a string of charges – including possession of a gun – after smashing into several police cars while attempting to evade a traffic stop in Ajax Saturday morning.

Durham Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call after reports of white Mercedes stopped at the intersection of Westney Road and Curtis Gate for more than 30 minutes.

Officers blocked the Mercedes and approached the vehicle when the driver attempted to flee. The car struck several cruisers but was unable to escape and officers were able to take him into custody without incident.

A firearm was found on the man during the arrest.

The suspect sustained minor injuries from the collision and was transported to a local hospital. No officers sustained any injuries.

Uriah Edusei-Needham, 24, is charged with two firearm-related offences, two impaired driving offences, dangerous driving and a probation violation.
