A woman was arrested at an Oshawa school on charges of illicit firearm possession.

Durham Regional Police launched an investigation into the woman due to suspicions she illegally owned a gun. They arrested her at an Oshawa school near John Street and Centre Street on April 4.

The downtown area is home to both E.A. Lovell Adult Day School and Durham Continuing Education. These schools allow adults to earn their high school diplomas or upgrade their studies for work.

At the same time, other officers raided the woman’s home near Bayly Street and Sandy Beach Road in Pickering. Inside they discovered a loaded pistol with an extended magazine, investigators claim.

Karissa Correira, 27 of Pickering, is charged with possession of a firearm without a licence, and possession of a prohibited device. She’s since been released with conditions.
