Gun seized, impaired charges filed against Ajax man after traffic stop

A traffic stop on Monday night led to the arrest of an Ajax man on nine charges of gun possession and impaired driving.

According to York Regional Police, their officers received a report of an impaired driver near Copper Creek Dr and Ninth Line on the east side of Markham.

Police found a white Acura described in the reports and pulled it over shortly before midnight. The officers concluded the driver was impaired and they arrested him.

On searching the driver, the officers said they found a loaded pistol in his coat.

Praveen Rajenthiran, 27 of Ajax is charged with nine offences including, impaired driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, possession of a firearm while knowingly unauthorized, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition and carrying a concealed weapon among others.
