An Oshawa man is up on charges after York Police say they found guns in his car during a traffic stop.

The officers pulled the man off Highway 27 in King Township shortly before midnight on Sept. 30. The small township sits north of Vaughan about an hour and a half from Oshawa.

When they pulled the car over, the officer concluded the driver, who was the only occupant, was in breach of release conditions from earlier charges. They arrested the man at the scene and searched his car. Inside they found two loaded pistols, police report.

Troy Dacosta, 30 of Oshawa, is charged with several offences including;

  • two counts of unauthorized possession of a gun in a car
  • two counts of possession of a loaded restricted gun
  • four counts of possession of a prohibited device
  • careless storage of ammunition
  • two counts of failure to comply with a release order, and
  • obstructing police
