Heat warning for Oshawa, Durham Region

Environment Canada has posted a heat warning for Durham Region for this weekend, with the alert possibly extending into Monday.
Hot and humid conditions will persist through the weekend with temperatures expected around 30 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 37-42.
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can cause the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors
In Oshawa, cooling centres will operate for the duration of the heat alert at City Hall and all City recreational facilities. Washrooms and drinking water are available.
Splash pads and Camp Samac Pool will extend operation hours until sunset during the heat event. Lakeview Park beaches (weather permitting) will extend supervision hours until sunset during the heat event as well. Access to the beach will be monitored and controlled between 11:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m.
