Heavy rains cancelling outdoor, sports, concerts, swimming from Pickering to Clarington
Published July 10, 2024 at 4:39 pm
The heavy rains falling in Durham Region are playing havoc with outdoor activities in the region.
Everything from outdoor swimming in Orono to concerts in the park in Whitby, along with baseball and soccer matches across Durham have been cancelled tonight due to the extreme weather.
Torrential downpours are happening in the five lakeshore communities, with 40-60 mm of rain – perhaps more in some areas – expected before conditions ease up tomorrow morning.
A weather warning from Environment Canada is in effect for Pickering to Clarington on the south side of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
The heaviest rain will occur this evening as our local weather system copes with the remnants of Hurricane Beryl. The rain will taper to scattered showers from west to east tonight through early Thursday morning.
The unsettled weather is also expected to bring tornadoes to southern Ontario, with Niagara Region in the flight path.
📣Music in the Park Update📣
