Durham Regional Police notifies the public of a multi-day road closure in Whitby as a large-scale event involving the Hell Angels Motorcycle Club rolls through the Durham Region.
Highway 12/Baldwin St. is closed just north of Columbus Rd. with two detour routes available.
Police say the closure is expected to last until 9 p.m. tomorrow (July 24). Only local traffic can access the roadway.
The weekend road closure is a cautionary move made by police who anticipate members of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club (HAMC) to be traveling through the area.
The Brooklin Chapter of the HAMC is hosting the Canada Run 2022, an annual event where members of all the Canadian chapters of the HAMC gather in Brooklin, Ont. for a mandatory ride and party to socialize.
On Monday, July 18, Durham Police held a news conference to address the upcoming Canada Run 2022 being hosted in Brooklin.
“Rest assured, our primary focus on managing this event is to ensure we get through this event safely and uneventful for all,” Durham Regional Police Deputy Chief Dean Bertrim said during the news conference. “We anticipate that events like this are highly visible and that our visitors will be on their best behaviour.”
Durham Police encourage residents to see posted signs in the area for detour routes.
