The ongoing work to complete the bridge construction over Highway 401 at Simcoe Street will mean a full closure of the bridge from Thursday evening at 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday morning.

The overnight closure is to allow for the installation of a girder on the east side of the Simcoe Street bridge.

Access to the Highway 401 eastbound and westbound off-ramps will be available during the closure and detour routes will be in place to divert vehicle traffic around the closed portion of Simcoe Street.

  • Northbound traffic on Simcoe Street: Traffic will be detoured east on Bloor Street to Ritson Road where it will head north and then east on McNaughton Ave./First Ave. to Simcoe Street.
  • Southbound traffic on Simcoe Street: Traffic will be detoured east on First Avenue to Ritson Road where it will head south to Bloor Street and then west to Simcoe Street.

Additionally, Lviv Boulevard will be closed at Albert Street with access to local traffic only. Signage will be installed before the closure date to notify drivers of the closure and of the detours.

The work is part of Highway 401 widening through Durham Region that began in 2022. The work on the new bridges at Simcoe and Albert Streets is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
