Highway closure continue to cause chaos for school bus service from Clarington to Pickering

Yesterday’s fatal accident on Highway 401 in Pickering is continuing to cause chaos for traffic in the area, including school service in Durham Region, which is facing 31 route cancellations and numerous delays today (June 22).

A message from Durham Student Transportation Services, the organization responsible for getting students to and from school in every community save Clarington warned parents students and school officials that closure of the highway is causing bus route delays due to traffic congestion throughout the region.

“Excessive delays are possible this morning throughout the 401 corridor. Please monitor the DSTS delays page for updates.”

Clarington has a dozen route cancellations affecting nine schools today; Oshawa six cancellations; Ajax five; and Uxbridge and Scugog four each. There are also numerous delays.

Schools affected by cancellations today are Duke of Cambridge, St. Joseph, Enniskillen, Courtice Intermediate, Hampton Jr., MJ Hobbs Sr. and Newcastle elementary schools and Bowmanville and Courtice high schools in Clarington; Village Union, St. Kateri Tekakwitha and S. Christopher in Oshawa; Michaelle Jean, St. Bernadette and Carruthers Creek (PM only) in Ajax; Cartwright Central, RH Cornish and SA Cawker in Scugog; and Scott Central, Uxbridge public and Joseph Gould in Uxbridge.
