An Oshawa Long Term Care Home resident has died from COVID-19, the second virus-related fatality in Durham Region this week, coming just days after a resident at Amica retirement home in Whitby died from the virus.

The Amica death was the first fatality from COVID-19 in Durham in three months.

Hillsdale Estates announced the death of the Primrose Path resident on the weekend following an outbreak at the home that began August 26. There are still 19 residents infected with the virus at the 300-bed facility. They are self-isolating.

The death was the 376th in Durham related to COVID-19 since the pandemic was declared, with 219 of those deaths coming from long-term care homes.

There are still outbreaks at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, Extendicare in Oshawa and Amica in Whitby that have six people self-isolating and three in hospital care.
