The Grey Cup found its way to Whitby Tuesday night, with the historic trophy and one of the players who earned it making an appearance at the Bull Pub & Grill on Colborne Street downtown.
Pub owner Shawn Nadarajah said the event was organized by Toronto Argonaut fans who were at the bar November 17 to watch their team defeat Winnipeg 41-24 to win their 19th Grey Cup.
“We only found out about it the day before that the Cup was coming,” Nadarajah said, adding the appearance of the trophy and Argo running back Daniel Adeboboye (who was born in Mississauga and grew up in Toronto) drew a “packed house” to the pub.
“People were drinking out of it and taking pictures with it. It was a really good day.”
First awarded in 1909, the Grey Cup has enjoyed a colourful history, including being broken on several occasions, stolen twice, surviving a 1947 fire that destroyed numerous other artifacts and even being held for ransom.
Now, it has one more story to tell.
