A Whitby man has been charged following allegations of historical sexual assaults against an employee.

According to Durham Regional Police, a person came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against their employer. Allegedly, the owner of a business near Taunton Road and Brock Street made inappropriate comments and touched the employee back in 2019. Investigators did not specify which business the alleged assaults took place.

On April 22, 2024, police charged Sean Godfrey, 53 of Apsley (in Kawartha Lakes), with three counts of sexual assault. He’s since been released with conditions.

Any victims of sexual assault, or anybody with information about these allegations, can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1854 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

There is no statute of limitation on sexual assault so victims can come forward even years or decades after the assault. Those unable or unwilling to come forward to police can reach out to Victim Services of Durham Region, which offers many supports.
