Homes in Oshawa and Whitby sweep top five spots for most expensive homes sold in Durham

A one-of-a-kind country estate in Oshawa’s rural suburb of Columbus tops the list of most expensive properties sold in Durham Region last month, with the nearly 8,900 square foot home selling for $4.6 million on January 24.

There is plenty of detailed craftmanship throughout the custom-built home, which sits on a 9.65-acre lot and features parking for 34 cars. Inside is soaring cathedral ceilings and high-end architectural finishes while outside is an entertainers dream with landscaped park-like grounds, an in-ground pool and a covered rotunda to enjoy the sunsets.

The home at 960 Columbus Rd. W was originally listed for $5.3 million in October before the price dropped for a quick sale. The property sold for just $685,000 in 2004.

At #2 for most expensive homes sold in January in the region is a four-bedroom home on Serene Court, a quiet cul-de-sac in Whitby, that sold January 23 for $1.525 million – $124,000 under asking.

The home features $500,000 in upgrades, including custom-built cabinetry and stainless steel appliances and a landscaped back yard with a salt water pool.

A renovated family home on Fifewood Court in Whitby slips in to number three on the list, with the 3,000 sq. ft, 4-bedroom house boasting a Scarlett O’Hara staircase, an extra-long kitchen and an open concept recreation room with a walk-out to a pool and garden – all backing onto a ravine.

The home sold last month for $1.36 million, $110,000 over asking.

At #4 is a five-bedroom home on Jack Glenn Street in north Oshawa, which sold for $1.28 million, while Oshawa takes the fifth spot on the list as well, with a four-bedroom home in an established mini-neighbourhood on Old Brampton Court in the north end selling January 21 for $1.225 million.
