A Whitby man is facing a slew of impaired-related charges after the car he was driving crossed the centre line and drove head-on into the path of another vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to himself and others.

Durham Police say the suspect’s vehicle was travelling northbound on Stevenson Road in Oshawa early Sunday morning when it crossed the centre median into oncoming traffic, striking a southbound vehicle head on.  The car also struck a second southbound vehicle, causing “significant damage.”

Police said the driver of the offending vehicle showed “obvious signs of alcohol impairment” and was taken into custody without incident and then transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Parties from the other vehicles were also taken to hospital with serious but injuries.

Chinedu Osita-Adubasim, 26, has been charged with seven offences, including two counts of operating a vehicle while impaired causing bodily harm.

Anyone with video footage, dash cam footage or information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. May of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3065.
