Drinking and driving continues to be an issue on Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering and Durham Region roadways.
Durham Regional Police had a busy weekend pulling over drivers who had a little too much to drink and got behind the wheel this weekend.
“It was a disappointing weekend on our roadways,” Durham police said in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).
Local police officers spent Saturday and Sunday (July 28) responding to 50 impaired driving calls.
They also had to respond to five accidents involving impaired drivers. In all, 12 people were arrested for drunk driving.
That also included one incident where an officer was assaulted by an impaired driver.
“We all have a responsibility to keep our roadways safe,” said Durham police. “Don’t drive impaired and if you suspect an impaired driver call 9-1-1.”
